Rabbity-Rabbit and Silky-Kay

Hello, blog! Long time no see!

For Christmas this year, my beautiful and generous husband gave me some Amy Butler fat quarters and two new books: Aranzi Aronzo's Fun Dolls and Cute Dolls. As it turned out, they arrived just in time!

My younger sister gave birth to her second daughter a couple of weeks ago, and what better way to welcome the new addition to the family - and show some love for the three-year-old new big sister - than to make a couple of new dolls?

Rabbity-Rabbit is, of course, on the left there, with the letter "F" for Finley, the new baby. Silky-Kay, with all of her non-baby-safe red hair, is on the right, with "H" for Hayden, the proud new big sister. They both sport new dresses in fashionable white felt with pink embroidery detail around the seams. I hope that they - and my two nieces - grow to be the best of friends.

First Day of School!

Posted by Som Wed, 23 Aug 2006 01:57:00 GMT

Ariana went to her very first day of preschool today.

By all accounts (hers and the teacher's,) it went very well. Her only complaint? "I didn't like laying down on that mats." Well, no surprise there.

Isabella's not in school yet, but I couldn't leave her out of the picture-taking this morning!

Crafty update: Well, the scarf and the sweater are taking a backseat for a while, resting on the needles, because I have a brand spankin' new sewing machine. I totally slaughtered my old one (hey, did you know you weren't supposed to take apart the lower mechanism to see how it works? Well, I didn't.) So now I have a lovely new machine with all kinds of buttons and levers and fancy stitches! Since the cat up and peed all over the last bag I made, I've decided to make a new one. Two, in fact, because hey, as long as I'm making one, I might as well make two. I'll be posting pictures of my two brand-new messenger bags (with embroidered mandalas on the flaps) pretty soon. I've got a lot more time to craft now, since Ari's in school and Izzy loves nothing more than "helping Mommy sew."

And this time, the cat's not getting near the bags. Installing a nice metal hook on the wall was Step Number One for this project.

Added Tutorial

Posted by Som Thu, 03 Aug 2006 05:40:00 GMT

Just so you know, I added a mini-tutorial to the Zafu and Zabuton tutorial page. At the bottom, you can now see a tutorial on how to add a "rise" to the zabuton. There are six photographs in the added tutorial, and for some reason my server's being really slow right now, so I apologize if it takes a while to download. If the problem persists, I'll look into hosting my images elsewhere (but that's not ideal for me, since I'm already paying for hosting on this server, and I'd rather not pay MORE for image hosting. And then there's the added work of transferring the images and going back to edit all the entries...oi.)

I'm in the middle of two knitting projects right now: the kata scarf and the simple sweater for a child, both from Mindful Knitting. I'm pleased with my progress so far, and the projects are so much fun that I have trouble deciding which one I want to work on! Hopefully I'll have one or the other finished sometime soon so I can upload some pics.
